About The Hayshed
The Hayshed Wedding and Events is a rustic wedding and event venue located 11km from Orange, NSW 2800. It sits on a 920 hectare, sixth-generation working sheep farm, with stock in the paddocks and rolling hills in every direction, and that’s exactly what makes the backdrop so special.
The shed was built in the 1920s by Bill Blunt, from yellow box posts cut locally and Oregon roof timbers shipped from North America. A hundred years on, those same timbers hold up the grand cathedral ceiling your guests will celebrate beneath. Today it’s run by Bill’s great grandson Nick, together with Bec.
We built The Hayshed after our own wedding showed us how rigid the wedding industry can be, so we keep things honest and simple. One wedding per weekend, no corkage fees and no hidden costs. You’ll deal with the two of us from first enquiry to final farewell. We provide the canvas, you create your masterpiece.
Over 60 weddings in six years have taught us what matters on the day. A dry area means no marquee is needed, and two flushing toilets mean no port-a-loos.
Stay on the farm
The Quarters is our farm stay on the property, sleeping six. Once home to the shearers who passed through the woolshed, it’s now a warm, comfortable and romantic place to stay, available at an additional charge.

The History of The Hayshed
Can you see the old hayshed filled to the roof with sweet smelling cured bales of fodder?
Imagine the sweat and grit of those men who toiled in summer heat lumping each hay bale ever higher.
A yearly chore to provide sustenance to sheep and cattle during droughts and snowy winters.
The hayshed was constructed in the 1920’s by Bill Blunt and his team of workers. The huge yellow box posts were cut locally and dragged into position, stood by tractor, horse and manpower.
The roof timbers are Oregon – imported by ship from North America.
Not in his wildest dreams would Bill have imagined his construction, born out of agricultural necessity, re-birthed to celebrate love and commitment, promised by two, for life.
The Hayshed Wedding and Events is run by Bill’s great-grandson Nick and his wife Bec.

Frequently asked questions
How many guests can you take?
The Hayshed seats 160 guests, or up to 200 for a cocktail reception. Tables and chairs for 160 guests are included.
Is there accommodation?
Yes. The Quarters is our farm stay on the property and sleeps six. It’s available at an additional charge.
Do we need a marquee?
No. The hayshed gives you a dry, sheltered area for your reception, so there’s no marquee to hire.
What if it rains?
Your celebration simply moves under cover in the shed, so you always have a built-in wet weather backup.
Is there a curfew?
Yes, the curfew is midnight. We suggest last drinks at 11pm and music finishing soon after, so your guests have time to get ready to leave.
Can we bring our own caterer and suppliers?
Yes. You’re welcome to bring any vendor you choose. Caterers have a kitchenette with 3 phase power, a fridge, freezer, sink and stainless steel bench, and we’re happy to share our recommended supplier list, built from over 60 weddings.
Can we bring our own drinks?
Yes. There are no restrictions on drinks and no corkage fees.
When can we set up?
For a Saturday wedding you have access from 9am Friday, with everything packed out before 1pm Monday. For other days, it’s 9am the day before until 1pm two days after.
Is the venue just ours?
We host one wedding per weekend, so the shed and grounds are yours for your booking. Beyond the event area the farm keeps working, and a paddock is set aside just for your photographs.
